The Landing, A Restorative Place and Project
The Landing is the informal name of a 15 acre drumlin pasture which Brian and his family inhabit. In the past few years the home has also been a landing place for others in transition: a few college students and Brian's 87 years old mother. We grow organic garlic, a variety of fruit and nut trees, and copious amounts of berries and vegetables. Brian has been growing an arboretum since he landed here in 2002. There are over 35 species of trees and shrubs on the land.
The Project has at times involved deconstruction, construction, reconstruction, and relocation. As well as digging, planting and harvesting; rolling impossible boulders; and building a stone wall and whimsy garden. It is a living cycle of action and reflection with many opportunties for learning along the way. Sometimes we plan and sometimes things happen in this ongoing revival of our lives, the land, the outbuildings and how all these forces intertwine.
